KUCHING: The joint launch of Boulevard Group of Companies'four new establishments – Imperial Hotel Kuching, Boulevard Shopping Mall, Lexus Kuching and Toyota 3S Centre – will strengthen the group's presence in Kuching.

During the opening ceremony, Shin Yang Group of Companies' group executive chairman, James Ling Lu Kiong affirmed that the launch of its new four-star hotel targeted at business travellers was timely as Sarawak celebrates Visit Sarawak Year 2014 and Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

The hotel's strategic location between the airport and the central business district (CBD) will certainly be an advantage to both business and leisure travellers, he added.

"Imperial Hotel Kuching also has much to offer in the form of meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions (MICE) facilities," he said during the launching ceremony yesterday.

The event was graced by the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Adenan Satem and his wife as well as Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Alfred Jabu Numpang.

Also present were Shin Yang Group of Companies' group executive director Tan Sri Datuk Ling Chiong Ho, Boulevard Jaya Sdn Bhd general manager Heu Nging Ching, Boulevard Group of Companies directors Tan Sri Lau Hieng Wui and Dato' Sri Law Kiu Kiong, UMW Toyota president Datuk Ismet Suki and other honoured guests.

"Kuching has really been transformed into a well-known MICE destination when our state government under the vision of our former Chief Minister, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud spearheaded the set up and established the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) in 2006 and the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) in 2009 to tap into this vast potential MICE market," he highlighted.

The number of international conferences and conventions held in Kuching over the last few years, the latest being the Asean Tourism Forum 2014 in January and Routes Asia 2014 in March earlier this year were testimony to the enormous success of our state government's vision and efforts.

Imperial Hotel Kuching aims to tap into this market by offering comprehensive MICE facilities including two ballrooms, nine multi-functional meeting rooms, extensive pre function foyer, VIP lounges and a covered outdoor terrace to suit conferences and events of different sizes and preferences.

"Imperial Hotel Kuching's extensive conference and meeting facilities with a total floor area of 5,856 square metres equipped with the latest technological audio video equipment will most definitely support the state government's objective to make the city of Kuching and Sarawak the destination of choice not only for tourism but also for international conventions and events," James affirmed.

In addition, Ling acknowledged that the evolution of today's business world has created the need for a high level of technological solutions and supports to both business and leisure travellers on the go.

On that note, Imperial Hotel Kuching takes great pride at being the first hotel in Sarawak to subscribe to the Hospitality Entertainment Solution, the latest hassle free offering from Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) with the latest ICT and entertainment package comprising of In-Building Broadband Solution (IBS), TM's IPTV service – Hypp TV and powered by TM's high speed broadband (HSBB) network connectivity.

"It is an honour for our hotel to work in partnership with Telekom Malaysia, the largest integrated solutions provider in Malaysia to extend our discerning guests with good WIFI connectivity, be it for entertainment or work related, a weather proof uninterrupted access of internet and good quality HyppTV entertainment and news channels," he said.

Looking at Boulevard Shopping Mall's expansion, James observed that retail offerings have expanded to more than 230 offerings with a good mix.

"Furthermore, three floors of link corridor are connected with this addition to the Phase 1 Mall to give shoppers a more comforting and convenient accessibility.

"After this extra phase of addition, the mall has finally being transformed and fully completed making it the largest on stop lifestyle mall in Sarawak with 1.7 million square foot of retail space," he added.

Imperial <b>Hotel</b>, TM MoU to enhance services - The Borneo Post Online

Posted: 10 Jun 2014 09:33 AM PDT

KUCHING: Imperial Hotel Kuching's subscription to Telekom Malaysia Bhd's (TM) Hospitality Entertainment Solution – the first hotel in Sarawak to subscribe to the service in – is expected to enhance the hotel's efficiency and competitiveness.

The Hospitality Entertainment Solution is TM's latest ICT and entertainment package comprising In-Building Broadband Solution (IBS), TM's IPTV service – HyppTV and a Call Centre service, powered by TM's Direct Over Metro-E (DOME) network connectivity.

The Hospitality Entertainment Solution is exclusively targeted at hospitality industry players which include hotel businesses, retreat owners, resort owners/operators, hospitals, apartments, condominiums and any high tenancy buildings that require wired or wireless internet access and uninterrupted TV viewing.

According to Imperial Group Of Hotels general manager Su Sii Jiong, this initiative by TM will lay the foundation for collaborative and strategic partnership between both organisations to render mutually beneficial assistance with the aim of progressing to the next higher level of service standard offered to the hotel's valued customers.

"We are certainly proud to have TM, which is no doubt the leading telecommunications company in Malaysia to deliver high quality of hospitality entertainment solutions supported by dedicated high speed broadband internet access to our hotel guests and to elevate our hotel's in-house entertainment offering in Imperial Hotel Kuching.

HyppTV, the latest IPTV service operated by TM is diversified with its weather-proof channels, seamless internet access and superb customer support.

In a press conference with the media, Imperial Hotel Kuching general manager Patrick Kuek mentioned that the weather-proof channels are one of two reasons which motivated them to enter into a partnership with TM.

It also addresses the need for WiFi services which Kuek pointed out was a key criteria of late when business and leisure travellers search for hotels.

"Over the years, I think most hotels, especially international name brand hotels, realised that WiFi has become a necessity, rather than a luxury item. This is why more international hotels are providing WiFi (services) on a complimentary basis," he observed.

Commenting on the new partnership, TM Sarawak state general manager, Sarbini Hamdan TM hopes that the other hotels under Imperial Group, particularly in Sarawak, will follow suit.

On the background of the Hospitality Entertainment Solution, Sarbini noted this solution was launched sometime in June last year, and TM only started aggressively promoting this service in August 2013.

To date, TM has already secured commitments from 32 hotels around the country.

"We are completely open to any of our consumers or hoteliers, resort owners or developers out there who want to work with us to subscribe to this service. Currently, Imperial Hotel (Kuching) is the first hotel that signed up," Sarbini said, adding that there is also another group of hotels (Everly Group of Hotels), that has signed up just recently.

Sarbini noted that the collaboration established with Imperial Hotel Kuching reflects their commitment in preparing Malaysian small medium enterprises (SMEs) for a paradigm shift, especially those in the hospitality industry.

"This all-in-one solution not only elevates the hotel guests' experience but most importantly, ease the hotel's technical management concerns as the solution provides High Speed Broadband Interent access via TM's DOME netowrk, world-class entertainment via HyppTV, as well as a 24/7 Call Centre and Customer support."

The MOU signing ceremony yesterday saw Khaidhir Elias, vice president SME of TM and Sarbini signing the Service Agreement on behalf of TM while Imperial Hotel was represented by Don Yew Hoon, chief executive officer of Boulevard Group of Companies and Kuek.

Also present at the ceremony were Su, Sharon Lau, financial controller of Imperial Hotel Kuching, Azman Yusof, general manager of SME, TM and Roslawati Mohd Tahir, head of SME, TM Sarawak.

Medan <b>Hotel</b> to open soon - The Borneo Post Online

Posted: 16 Jul 2014 12:23 PM PDT

SIBU: A new business-class hotel will open on July 23 at Wong King Huo Road to cater to the vibrant development of Central Sarawak.

Situated next to Medan Commercial Centre, the new Medan Hotel with 136 rooms is now standing tall, providing comfort for the travellers with its concept of a home away from home.

The new property is owned and operated by the subsidiary company of Hock Peng Organisation – a diversified group involved in property development, construction, hotel and retail business.

"The eight-storey hotel with a cafe on the ground floor is surrounded by a shopping mall and over 135 units of shop houses and is just a five-minute ride from Sibu town," the organisation's deputy managing director Pemanca Dr Francis Toh said.

The organisation group also operates the Li Hua Hotel chain in Sibu, Bintulu and Mukah.

"The Medan Hotel chain operates in Betong, Sibu Bus Terminal, and now, at Wong King Huo Road," he added.

The new hotel was built in line with their vision in property development to meet the fast growing Central Sarawak, with Sibu as the gateway.

He said the third largest town in the state was the commercial, administrative, education and transportation hub of Central Sarawak.

"The central region encompasses basically the whole Rajang River stretching from Bakun to Tanjung Manis and the Igan River Basin. Both
are a vast area that caters to the needs of about half of the population of Sarawak," he pointed out.

Central Sarawak also covers more than half of the land mass of the state.

Based on the number of hotel rooms here, there is a demand for more rooms, and the opening of Medan Hotel and Medan Commercial Centre would indeed be welcome news.

The new business-class hotel was designed with facilities like a coffee house, a conference room for 150 people, two 17-person lifts, security card access system, closed circuit television system, Wi-Fi service, Astro television programmes, 32-inch LCD TV, hot and cold water system and Fire Brigade approved fire protection system.

"The best part of the design is the covered walkway linking the hotel with Medan Mall shopping complex and the surrounding commercial area that includes eateries and entertainment outlets," Toh further said.

The location was also picked because of its quiet spot in the midst of the bustling commercial centre.

"We want our guests to enjoy a feeling of home away from home and with a shopping paradise at the door step," he added.

On the top floor, the hotel has an open-air party space for 80 people – a spot that provides the best view of the town on Sibu's 'rooftop'.

Rooms are from RM98 nett onwards, inclusive of breakfast.

Malaysian Bar Council: Even in death, he reminds us of our duty

Foreign tourists still think <b>Sarawak</b> safe - The Borneo Post Online

Posted: 07 Aug 2014 11:58 AM PDT

by Lian Cheng, reporters@theborneopost.com. Posted on August 8, 2014, Friday

KUCHING: Foreign tourists are not perturbed by the senseless killings at Abell Road where two British medical students were stabbed to death after an alcohol-fuelled confrontation.

Ferdi Urlings, 56 and Merle Urlings, 40, who were sitting right across the road from where the killings were committed, said they were not disturbed by the news as such incidents happened everywhere.

"It happens in all cities. We are not worried or frightened. If it is your time, it is your time," said the Urlings.

They said in Amsterdam, Holland, where they come from, stabbing happened almost every evening.

Despite being pre-warned by their traveling agency back in Holland that when night fell, it could be quite dangerous for tourists, the Urlings still thought that Sarawak was a nice place.

"We have been to Mulu, Miri, Sibu and now Kuching. The people here are nice, the environment is nice and the natural surrounding is nice."

"This kind of incidences (killings) happen all over the world. Sometimes, things go well. Other times, bad things just happen. It is the same everywhere."

Having a good long three weeks traveling across Sarawak, the Urlings who touched down in Sarawak on July 22 and are due to leave on Aug 9 said they would continue to recommend their friends back home to visit Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Frans Larooi, 56, also from Holland and who happened to pass by the crime scene was not so optimistic.

"To think that it happened so near our hotel is a bit frightening, coming to think of it," said Larooi who would be here for a week.

After spending three weeks travelling to Langkawi, Penang and other places in Peninsular Malaysia, he still said Malaysia was generally quite a safe place.

Josta de Lange who happened to meet Larooi because they stayed in the same hotel, though not worrying for her safety while travelling in Kuching, expressed regrets for the parents of the victims as well as parents of the suspects.

"This is terrible and tragic. Not only parents of the victims will feel sad, the parents of the suspects are equally heart-broken," said de Lange.

Bouquets of flowers as well as wreaths were seen placed at the crime scene yesterday. Sarawak Economic Development Corporation not only expressed their regrets through a wreath, it also held a vigil last night to pay respect to the two victims.
