How well do you know about Kuching city center? | lot ... - Lot 10 Hotel

To have a memorable trip when travel in Kuching, Sarawak, first things is to know about this Kuching city center. Well,to find Kuching city center hotel is easy but to find a best place for you to convenient need to do some research. lot 1o boutique hotel can provide you.

Lets talk about Kuching city center.

Kuching is very attractive. Most tourists go to Sarawak just to explore Kuching. It has many tourist attractions offered to locals as well as visitors. If you want to get up close and understand more about the multi cultures in Kuching, the best thing to do is to go visit the temples and mosques around the city. One of the famous temples in Kuching is the Tua Pek Kong Temple. This temple is the oldest Chinese temple in Kuching and is easily access almost anywhere in Kuching. After a visit to the Chinese temple, you can go to visit the Muslims mosque. There are two main mosques in Kuching, namely the Kuching City mosque and Masjid Jamek. Both mosques are packed with devotees performing prayers expecially on Fridays.

Kuching, the capital of Sarawak, is simply unique. No other city in Malaysia has such a romantic and unlikely history, nor displays its charms with such an easy grace. The residents of Kuching (pop. 650,000 approx.) enjoy living here, and take great pride in their fascinating city, which is reflected in their attitude to visitors. Kuching welcomes visitors warmly, but it does not put on an act for them. Instead it goes about its own business in a relaxed manner that hasn't changed in 160 years. It is impossible to really enjoy Kuching from the air conditioned comfort of a tour bus. To make the most of your visit you must put on your walking shoes, take to the streets (and the water), and join in.

Like all towns and cities in Borneo, the focal point of Kuching and the reason for its existence is the river. Hiring a sampan to meander slowly up and down the Sarawak River is the best way to get your first impression of Kuching. From the river you will see picturesque Malay villages (kampungs), a golden-domed mosque, a Victorian fort, a whole street of 19th century Chinese shophouses and an imposing wooden-roofed palace, all set against a background of distant mountains.

Kuching's city center is well preserved and very compact; virtually everything that is worth seeing can be reached on foot or by sampan. The narrow, bustling streets are crammed with shops selling all manner of goods, from the mundane to the exotic. There are ornate Chinese temples, many fine examples of colonial-style architecture, a beautiful waterfront and a number of interesting museums, including the historic Sarawak Museum. There is an excellent range of accommodation, from luxury via boutique to budget, good restaurants, and nightlife to suit most tastes and pockets. You can try local delicacies such as deer meat and jungle fern, drink a glass or two of tuak (local rice wine), or feast on a vast array of seafood dishes Kuching has an unusual name – the word means "cat" in Malay. There are a number of stories as to how this name came about, but it is unlikely that it has anything to do with cats. The two more likely explanations are that it derives from the Chinese word kochin, meaning "harbour," or that it is named after the mata kuching or "cat's eye" fruit, a close relative of the lychee that grows widely here.

Sarawak is a unique and enjoyable tourism destination, and Kuching is the ideal base from which to go exploring. The nearby national parks include the famous Bako, home of the rare proboscis monkey, Gunung Gading, where giant rafflesia flowers bloom, Kuching Wetlands, which protects a fascinating mangrove ecosystem, Kubah, with its rare palms and orchids, and Semenggoh and Matang Wildlife Centres with their resident orangutans. Literally hundreds of Iban and Bidayuh longhouses are within easy travelling distance. Damai, on the nearby Santubong Peninsula is Sarawak's main resort area, and many travel agents offer "two-centre" packages allowing you to explore Kuching, go on a longhouse trip, visit Bako and the rainforest and then relax on the beach after the rigours of jungle trekking.

Kuching is also the ideal base for visiting longhouses. Local travel agents have a variety of tours, ranging from half-day trips to nearby Bidayuh longhouses, to week long safaris to Iban longhouses on the Skrang, Lemanak and Batang Ai river systems.

During the long weekend in May, I traveled to East Malaysia, Sarawak.
At first, me and my parents thought of going to Australia, but it was kinda rush to plan a long trip, so we decided just to go somewhere nearby to have a nice break.
Well, this is my 5th times I went to Kuching, so this little small town isn't that fresh for me. #heehee

Since I am travelling with my parents and elder niece this time, we have booked an apartment hotel which recommended by Kay, a pure Chinese Sarawakian. #lol
Citadines Apartment Hotel, located in the prime location of Jalan Simpang Tiga.
The location is great since it is nearby to the airport, also it is very convenient with few restaurants and cafes.

Plenty restaurants and cafes offering local and international dishes around the corner.
If you are a waffles lover, do not miss out the Dot Cafe! They offer various of waffles and coffees at reasonable prices.

Besides all the dining spots, the Spring Shopping Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in East Malaysia is just located across the road which is accessible via the pedestrian bridge.

The first impression when entering the lobby is very cozy, and the receptionists are very welcoming and friendly.
A welcome drink will be served upon your check in.

The hotel provides free WiFi.
Not sure if the signal caused by too many traffic during that preiod, we didn't pick up good WiFi signal either at the lobby nor in our rooms.

As said it is an apartment hotel, the unit completes with separate living and dining areas.
This gives us more space for a family stay and it is truly homey and peaceful.

This is the master bedroom; comes with it's own TV as well as the bathroom.

The en-suite bathroom in the master bedroom has a bath with shower over.
But, it was a shame that this hotel did not provide any toiletries.
Btw, the beds were made and fresh towels were provided every day.

The second room is very simple, with only 2 single bed, and a closet.

The other bathroom which just next to the second bedroom had a walk-in shower.
Water pressure in the shower is always a big deal to me, and this shower has definitely pass my test! #haha

The living room is comfortable and with ample space to move around.
I would say this kind of apartment hotel is good option for family trips because you can spend as much as previous time with your family rather then go back to your own rooms after the day outings.

One of the cons we found from the living room was the overall cleanliness.
My niece catch a number of ants over the carpet area which we felt very irritating.
I did made a complaint right after our stays, and glad that the management has resolved the issue pleasantly.

We were lucky enough to get the room with such a nice view like this!
Ever since I started my weekly workout, I always want to book a hotel with pool so that I can keep my regular workout even though I am on vacations.

The 4 bottles of water plus tea, coffee and creamer were supplied every day.

The kitchen is equipped with all the necessities like microwave, fridge, electronic kettles, electric stove and mild cooking utensils, it's good enough for you to make a yummy homemade meal if you want to.

The fitness centre is located at the same floor as we stayed.
The place is clean, well-maintained and with full fitness equipment.

The outdoor surrounding is big, and it provides one small pool for kids and one big pool for adults.

Overall, despite some cons that have mentioned, we are quite happy with the hotel in generally.
I hope the management will continue improve their services, and be able to provide the BEST to their customers.

Alright, that's all for today!
Hope this post is helpful for you.

Tourism boom drives Japan to convert offices into hotels ... - Hotel in Sarawak Blog

Tourism boom drives Japan to convert offices into hotels ...

TOKYO: Record tourists to Japan are stretching the ability of hotels to accommodate them in a sector constrained by high costs, forcing developers to think out of the box for means to quickly increase lodging options without breaking the bank.

Japan is on target this year to beat the record 13.4 million visitors in 2014, helped by a weak yen and easier visa requirements for some Asian countries.

The government is aiming to attract 20 million visitors by 2020, when Tokyo hosts the Olympics, to revitalise the world's third-biggest economy.

The rising influx of tourists is already squeezing existing accommodation supply in Tokyo, which has about 100,000 hotel rooms.

Just 7,600 rooms are scheduled to be added in the next three years, according to STR Global, a research firm for the hotel industry.

The slow pace of growth is due to rising land prices and construction costs.

One quick solution: convert old office buildings into hotels with tiny but stylish rooms that can rent for under US$30 a night, less than half the rate for a cheap business hotel.

"Converting an office building into a hotel is an ideal way to respond to the immediate need for hotel rooms," said Yukari Sasaki, senior managing officer at property developer Sankei Building Co. "Building a hotel from scratch costs too much money now because of high construction costs."

Sankei, a unit of Fuji Media Holdings Inc, which owns the conservative Sankei newspaper, converted a 35-year-old office building in Tokyo's electronics-geek district of Akihabara into a hotel in under a year and for less than US$8 million.

The hotel, called Grids, charges 3,300 yen (US$27) a night per person for a bunkbed and up to 5,000 yen (US$40) for premium rooms with tatami mats.

By comparison, the average room rate at Tokyo's lowest-ranked business hotels has risen 11.7 percent from a year earlier to 9,500 yen, according to STR Global.

"The market for this type of hotel is still tiny, but it has potential to grow bigger in major cities where hotel demand is strong," said Tomohiko Sawayanagi, managing director for Jones Lang LaSalle in Tokyo.

Also, as more office towers are being built, older and smaller office buildings become less attractive. Such properties could be better used as hotels, industry people say.

"Some office buildings can generate higher returns when converted into hotels because we can expect further increases in foreign visitors to Japan," said Yuji Sakawa, deputy general manager at B-lot Co, a Tokyo-based real estate investor.

Last year, B-lot converted a 28-year-old office building near Tokyo's popular Tsukiji fish market into a hotel called First Cabin, where 5,500 yen will get you a "business-class cabin" with a single bed. Another 1,000 yen buys you space to open a suitcase.

In March, B-lot sold First Cabin to Hong Kong-based property investor SIS International Holdings Ltd, and is now converting a 30-year-old office building in Shinjuku, a popular destination for Asian tourists, into a bunkbed hotel.

Competition will come from the likes of home rental website Airbnb, which has listed thousands of properties, even at the risk of running afoul of the law. — Reuters
