KUCHING: The 'Sounds of Nashville' workshop is a rare opportunity for those wanting to learn how to write and sing country songs.

To be conducted by the Johnny Rodgers Band, the one-hour workshop will be held on Feb 15 at Parkcity Everly Hotel Miri starting from 3.30pm.

Participants attending the workshop will learn how to sing and write country songs and the Johnny Rodgers Band will use several country songs to demonstrate the various formulae of song construction.

Audience participation is encouraged to enable them to practise the techniques of writing and singing country songs. The techniques can also be applied to various styles of music song writing.

Besides learning country songs and music, the workshop will also cover a bit of the roots and history of Nashville.

Apart from conducting the workshop, Johnny Rodgers Band will also be performing at the country music concert held at the same venue.

The concert starts at 5pm and features Miri's own country music band – Country Road Band, Hi Breed from Kuching, D'Renegades (Kota Kinabalu), Corn Cake Kings (Kuala Lumpur), Eia and the Superband (Brunei Darussalam), Mel and Joe and Wandering Mustangs (both from Singapore).

The programme for the Miri Country Music Fest begins at 2pm starting with the bazaar – offering food, games and souvenirs – and followed by the workshops and the night concert.

Three workshops will be held starting with the drum sessions with Kenny Hogan from Wandering Mustangs and continues on with the Sound of Nashville and line dancing.

Tickets to the fest is priced at the RM80 for adults (includes one free drink) while tickets for children aged three to 12 are RM40 each (inclusive of one soft drink or ice cream).
