KENINGAU: Servay Hypermarket (Sabah) Sdn Bhd is planning to build a three-star 13-storey hotel, a four-storey shopping mall and a basement car park in the district.

District officer Haji Yusop Haji Osman, who disclosed this yesterday, said he had been briefed on the plans by the management of the company and he welcomed their interest to invest in the district.

"Servay submitted development and building plans to the Keningau District Council two weeks ago and they are still being processed," he said after inspecting a roof which was repaired with donation from Servay Supermarket here yesterday..

Yusop learnt that the hotel which has 120 rooms and a four-storey shopping mall, can create 600 jobs for the local people here.

The basement car park which could accommodate 186 vehicles, would ease the shortage of parking lots in the town.

"I was told that the company has acquired a site near a superstore for the construction of hotel, shopping mall and basement car park.

"The hotel is named 'My Inn' and this is a landmark for this area because it is the tallest building in the area when the construction is completed.

"If everything goes well, the project will begin construction next year," he said.

Servay also owns a hotel in Lahad Datu.

Yusop, who is also the Keningau District Council chairman, praised Servey for setting an excellent example to other private companies for building the hotel, shopping mall car park and for fulfilling its social responsibility to the petty traders in the area.

He hoped that more private companies would follow Servay's example by investing in Keningau as it would help to develop the economy and promote the district.

"I believe that with the investment of private companies, Keningau will witness  rapid development," he added.

Touching on the roof that was repaired at a cost of RM80,000, Yusop said it would  provide comfort to the petty traders who run daily business in the area.

He said the petty traders had complained to the District Council that the leaking roof had affected their business, especially during the rainy season.

The roof is connected from Survey Supermarket to the adjacent block.

Also present during the visit were District Council executive officer Rafik Haji Jubar and Servay Hypermarket (Sabah) Sdn Bhd director P'ng Ngee Yew.
