The best hotel in Lawas town
~ Comfortable, clean & new

Hotel Seri Malaysia Lawas is the only hotel you can find in Lawas town through Agoda, I think is also the best hotel in town. We also searching around the town, only few budget type hotel available, no lift provided. Well, this is a nice and quiet hotel, big parking place, big lobby, big restaurant, big room also! Room is clean, comfortable, only the TV is small. The fount counter also very helpful, I booking through Agoda is RM20 cheaper than I walk-in, so I book immediately online and show to counter my booking number. Lawas town is a small town, no place to go during night time, but you still can go to the foods stall next to hotel enjoy your local foods and drink there, otherwise you can get some snack from the shop at hotel lobby and enjoy in your room. Morning breakfast is great, big restaurant with many choice of foods. Although the day we stay, morning only two of us in the restaurant, you still can see many foods were provided, noodle, cake, bread, porridge, fruits and western foods as well.

KUCHING: The joint launch of Boulevard Group of Companies'four new establishments – Imperial Hotel Kuching, Boulevard Shopping Mall, Lexus Kuching and Toyota 3S Centre – will strengthen the group's presence in Kuching.

During the opening ceremony, Shin Yang Group of Companies' group executive chairman, James Ling Lu Kiong affirmed that the launch of its new four-star hotel targeted at business travellers was timely as Sarawak celebrates Visit Sarawak Year 2014 and Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

The hotel's strategic location between the airport and the central business district (CBD) will certainly be an advantage to both business and leisure travellers, he added.

"Imperial Hotel Kuching also has much to offer in the form of meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions (MICE) facilities," he said during the launching ceremony yesterday.

The event was graced by the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Adenan Satem and his wife as well as Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Alfred Jabu Numpang.

Also present were Shin Yang Group of Companies' group executive director Tan Sri Datuk Ling Chiong Ho, Boulevard Jaya Sdn Bhd general manager Heu Nging Ching, Boulevard Group of Companies directors Tan Sri Lau Hieng Wui and Dato' Sri Law Kiu Kiong, UMW Toyota president Datuk Ismet Suki and other honoured guests.

"Kuching has really been transformed into a well-known MICE destination when our state government under the vision of our former Chief Minister, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud spearheaded the set up and established the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) in 2006 and the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) in 2009 to tap into this vast potential MICE market," he highlighted.

The number of international conferences and conventions held in Kuching over the last few years, the latest being the Asean Tourism Forum 2014 in January and Routes Asia 2014 in March earlier this year were testimony to the enormous success of our state government's vision and efforts.

Imperial Hotel Kuching aims to tap into this market by offering comprehensive MICE facilities including two ballrooms, nine multi-functional meeting rooms, extensive pre function foyer, VIP lounges and a covered outdoor terrace to suit conferences and events of different sizes and preferences.

Rajang river adventure
well located, reasonable price, clean low cost accommodation
basic accommodation at reasonable price within easy walking distance to kapit town's shops, restaurants and central market. hotel was clean and rooms serviced promptly. considering its location it offers adequate accommodation for a short stay in kapit or a transit stopover to go further inland. wi fi is available. there are no eating facilities at the hotel, however there are plenty of cafes and a night food market nearby

Not bad for where it is
Location, helpful desk staff, clean

Although a bit shabby, the room was clean. The front desk staff spoke very limited English but did their best to help with our requests. The hotel's location, a bit out of the city center but near the market was good. The town is so small that it was still easy to walk everywhere from the hotel.

KOTA KINABALU: The impact of the Goods and Service Tax (GST) on the travel industry would include taxable supplies such as hotel accommodation, domestic transportation/hire of vehicles, inbound tour package and restaurant meals.

It will also include tickets for entry to exhibitions, entertainment venues, spa services, agency commission, booking fees, tour guide services, inbound travel insurance services, visa fees and other related tourism services, all of which will be subject to standard rate of 6 per cent GST.

Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Malaysia president Hamzah Rahmat disclosed this at the MATTA Malaysia GST seminar.

For land transportation, he said taxi will be exempted, excursion bus for domestic tour, limousine and airport taxi, hire and drive vehicle will all be standard rated supplies. For cruise services, cruises-to-nowhere, cruise around Malaysian waters and cruise around international waters are subject to GST at standard rate.

As tourist destinations, Langkawi, Tioman and Labuan are expected to have a slight advantage under the GST-era compared to other states because these islands are "designated areas" whereby there is generally no GST charged on goods/services such as retail shops, restaurants and hotels located therein, thus giving these islands a small cost-advantage for tourists, he said.

Hamzah urged members to register early and start preparations as non compliance of the GST rules will attract heavy penalties.

Additional manpower requirements are needed to ensure compliance.

As most of the travel agents have an annual turnover above RM500,000, and would become a GST-registered business, he advised travel agencies to put in place procurement policies that are GST-compatible and notify respective vendors/suppliers that GST-registered vendors/suppliers will be preferred in order for the travel agencies to recover Input Tax Credits on the GST incurred on goods and services purchased.

"As responsible corporate citizens, we must ensure our organization, system and processes are well equipped and able to embrace the implementation of GST," he said.
