The 4th International Plantation Industry Conference & Exhibition was organized by the International Institute of Plant Management and Universiti Teknologi Mara. The 2 day event was held at the heart of Borneo island and the land of Kenyalang, Kuching Sarawak.

Among the participants are large players in the plantation industry such as MPOB, MRB, MCB, as well as other private planters.

The purpose of iPiCEX 2014 is to raise the issue that occurs in the plantation industry, particularly the production yield, sustainability, technology, and environmental effects. As we move forward, all these issues need to be addressed and solved as the human population is growing steeply. Plantation industry is one of the most crucial sector that needs to be improved in order to feed this ever growing population, and also to meet growing demands in energy.

Armed man robs budget <b>hotel</b> - The Borneo Post Online

MIRI: An armed man robbed a budget hotel of RM969 on Wednesday.

In the incident around 3.15am, the unknown man is said to have entered the hotel at Jalan Melayu and pointed a sharp object, believed to be a knife, at the cashier.

He is said to have demanded the key to a room for him to collect something that supposedly belonged to his friend.

Feeling threatened, the cashier reluctantly handed over the key. The suspect then went to the room and when he returned minutes later decided to ransack the cashier's counter.

He took the cash with him and then fled the scene. A police report on the incident was filed at the Miri Central police station.

Adenan officially opens Promenade <b>Hotel</b> Bintulu – BorneoPost <b>...</b>

BINTULU: Promenade Hotel Bintulu was officially opened by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem during a grand opening ceremony yesterday.

Among those present were his wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Jamilah Anu, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang and wife Dato Sri Empiang Jabu, Double Dynasty Group of Companies managing director Tan Sri Yee Ming Seng and several assistant ministers and their wives.

Promenade Hotel Bintulu chief operating officer Alex Cham said Promenade Hotel Sdn Bhd's maiden hospitality business began with the opening of Promenade Hotel Kota Kinabalu Sabah 17 years ago, which now operates as the corporate headquarters.

"Since then, it has successfully achieved its business vision to manage and operate a chain of Promenade Hotels in Tawau Sabah, Fujian China and now in Bintulu and another hotel is in the pipeline," he said.

Promenade Hotel Bintulu has an inventory of 188 rooms and suites that are elegantly styled with a creative twist in its choice of colours plus a host of contemporary features such as the ingenious use of natural lighting and mirrors to give the feeling of warmth and spaciousness.

"In conjunction with the grand opening of Promenade Hotel Bintulu, we are pleased to extend our special introductory rates from RM168 nett and above, which includes breakfast," said Cham.

He added since the soft opening last September 9, this 8-storey business class hotel had been consistently enjoying excellent occupancy rate of 80 per cent.

This smoke-free hotel houses various 4-star facilities such as lift security access card to every floor, special handicap rooms and two function halls complete with state-of-the-art sound and light systems on the first floor.

It has a combined total of 60 tables for seated banquet and peppers cafe which uses flamboyant tableware to give diners a zestful culinary experience.

"Our coffeehouse, which can seat up to 120 diners and serves signature cuisines from Sabah will be fitted with computer terminals for free Internet access."

On the social-economic aspect, Cham said they were proud to be contributing to the local community by generating job opportunities for aspiring hoteliers and income for related businesses in the supply and services chain.

UN Ebola response special representative found dead in <b>hotel</b> room <b>...</b>

KIGALI: A special representative of the United Nations secretary-general for Ebola emergency response was found dead in his hotel room in Guinea's capital Conakry, Xinhua news agency reported.

Rwandan national Marcel Kanyankore Rudasingwa had recently been appointed by UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon to coordinate efforts against Ebola in Guinea.

"We are very sad to hear the death of a Rwandan national while on a UN duty mission to fight Ebola in Guinea," said Nathan Mugume, head of communications at Rwanda Biomedical Centre.

Mugume said the circumstances surrounding Rudasingwa's death remained unknown.

Rudasingwa is the second foreigner who died mysteriously in Guinea.

Head of Cuban medical delegation Graseciliano Jazbatolo also died in similar circumstances. -Bernama
